Lovely Original RHD MG TD
Very late car
Special Order Chrome Slats
been dry stored since 1976
Sometimes you just get lucky, and this find was one of those times. Bought in 1961 from a Doctor at the now defunct Chelsea Womens Hospital this very late UK Supplied MG TD has enjoyed a cossetted life. Used as a club car until 1976 the owner then stored it in his integral house garage until I bought it a few months back. The car looks just wonderful with its gently patinated appearance, and whilst the paintwork is not perfect it just looks too good to mess with. It is in fact recorded with the MG T register as car number 27. There are now over 50,000 cars on the register covering all the T series .
I have recommissioned it , replacing brake master cylinder and wheels cylinders, new tyres and a new fuel tank and stainless steel exhaust. The car is totally rot free and the ash frame as tight and like new. I have fitted a new dash switch panel as the old one was peppered with extra switches and even a cigar lighter! It drives beautifully and is quite a revelation with its independant front suspension and rack and pinion steering designed by Alec Issignosis. As my father told me as he new them in period, its like a magic carpet in comparison to a TC which is like driving on a plank of wood! He is right, it rides ever so smoothly.
Most TDs went to the US so to find a genuine UK supplied car in such original unmolested c,ondition is a rare find indeed.
Please note the number plate is not included in the sale. Fantastic value with LHD restored imports offered in the high 20s and even upto £35,000
